Caterpillar Pads

Caterpillar pads provide control in loading and deployment of subsea umbilical cables used to transfer product, information, and power back and forth from surface to sea floor.  Umbilical cables need to load onto reels and deploy in a very controlled manner to protect from damage.  As water depths increase, the line weights increase and more control is required to protect the umbilical. Caterpillar pads provide this control by utilizing treads to make a continual point of contact and maintain line tension during operations.  Specific urethane materials are available to meet the varying loads required in production. Whitefield Plastics designs caterpillar pads with the customer’s specifications in mind. Depending on requirements, our engineering team can design the caterpillar pads in-house to your specific applications, as well as reconditioning existing pads.
